Hailing from Úbeda, deep in in the searing heat of the Andalucian countryside, Guadalupe Plata rolled into Night & Day Cafe in a grey and rainy Manchester missing their guitar and with a seriously faulty amplifier. The omens were not good but The Devil looks after his own and as we all know he grooves to all the the best tunes. Their music is stripped down to the bare bones minimum but the sum is worth more than the parts. Carlos Jimena's drums, which at times created an almost David Lynch type atmosphere, along with Paco Luis Martos's washtub bass (it has to be seen and heard to be believed) provided the canvas on which Pedro de Dios splattered and screeched his reverb soaked swabs of primal guitar sonics that appeared to be dug up from the depths of a dark bone strewn swamp. The Delta Blues have never sounded so dark and beautiful.
